One board, the same for everyone

How the daily board works

Every day at midnight UTC a new position is drawn, and every player in the world gets the same one. The position comes from a seed made from the date, so the board is the same for everyone and nobody gets an easier copy. Because the board is shared, a score on it means the same thing for everyone who played it that day.

You get one try. Opening the board counts as the try, so leaving during the study phase and coming back does not show it to you twice. Your device remembers the try until the next board opens.

After you rebuild the position you see which squares you got right, which held the wrong piece, which you missed and where you placed an extra piece. The share row lists one square per piece, sorted by outcome, with nothing about where it stood, so posting it does not give the board away to someone who has not played yet.

To join the board, pick a name of 4 to 16 characters and the country you play for. The country starts from the one you picked before, then from your connection, then from your browser's language, and you can always change it. Your rating at the moment you join is shown beside your name.

Rows are ranked by the number of pieces placed correctly, then by the fewest wrong pieces, then by the fastest rebuild. Everyone studies for the same number of seconds, so study time never separates two players on the daily board.

Pieces and study time through the week

The setting follows a weekly arc. Monday starts gently so a weekend break does not end a streak, the load builds through the week, Saturday is a flash board you see for only a few seconds, and Sunday is the hardest board of all. Within each day's range the date picks one setting, the same for every player.
